Body butters have a higher concentration of butters (e.g., shea butter, cocoa butter, etc.) than lotions.  While lotions go on with a somewhat more oily consistency (due to their higher concentration of oils (e.g., coconut oil, olive oil, etc.), butters tend to go on and absorb feeling less oily.  They absorb in more readily and are extremely moisturizing.  They are specifically formulated for those with drier skin, living in a drier environment, or in winter (when the air is naturally more dry).
